Save Money: Combine your Car Trips

This week we will be giving some tips on how to save money on your car.  Today’s tip is simple and obvious: combine your car trips.

Is this you: do you get up on Saturday morning and drive to the coffee shop?  And then later in the day drive to fill up your car with gas and get a car wash?  And then later go and do your grocery shopping?

(This has nothing to do with today’s tip, but now would be a good time to re-read our tip on successful budgeting by making your own coffee; that alone saves you one car trip).

Each time you drive your car the engine needs to warm up to maximum operating efficiency.  If you make one long trip, with frequent stops so your car remains warm, you will burn less gas.  Obviously not returning home after each trip is a big mileage saver and money saver as well.

So, before you get in your car, make a mental list of all of your errands, and combine them into one trip to save money.
