In Canada you are required to file your personal income taxes by April 30 (self employed people may be eligible for a short extension). In the United States the filing deadline is April 15.
Our tip of the day: file early; don’t wait until the deadline to file.
If you are expecting a refund, the sooner you file, the sooner you get your refund. Put the refund in your savings account and start earning interest, or use it to pay down your debts. Canada Revenue Agency gets backlogged as the deadline approaches, so file early to get your refund early.
Even if you expect to have to pay, file early. You are not required to pay until April 30, even if you file early, so file now to determine exactly what you are required to pay, and then make a plan to pay it.
