As we continue Credit Report Week, once you have a copy of your credit report, read it and review it for mistakes. Common mistakes include over-stating or under-stating your credit limit, or recording an account as delinquent that is up to date.
It’s also possible that information from someone else’s credit report (perhaps a relative with a similar name) is appearing on your credit report, so a careful review of your report is essential.
If you find an error, contact the credit reporting agency and the actual creditor immediately and ask that they correct the report. Correcting errors will increase your credit score, and get you a better deal when you borrow in the future.
