The summer is ending, so you are probably not thinking much about air conditioning, but here’s a tip that will help you next summer: plant a tree to shade your air conditioner.
An air conditioner in the bright sun must work harder than an air conditioner that’s partially shaded. One way to do that is to plant a tree that will cast shade on your air conditioner during the heat of the day.
But be careful: don’t plant the tree so close that it restricts the airflow to the air conditioner, or so close that all of the leaves will fall into the air conditioner and clog it up. Planting a few feet away so that it casts a shadow buy doesn’t interfere with the air conditioner will work best.
The best time to plant or transplant a tree is in the late summer or early fall, so that the tree is not stressed by the heat of the summer, but still has time to get established before going dormant in the winter.
So, save money by planting a tree.
