Beat the Recession: Party at Home

in Money Saving Tips, Survive the Recession

Review your monthly budget: how much money do you spend eating out with friends?  A meal at a restaurant costs a lot more than a meal at home, and a drink at a bar or a restaurant costs many times more than that same drink at home.  So today’s tip: party at home.

You can save money by taking a staycation instead of a vacation, and you can do the same when getting together with friends.  Instead of meeting at the bar on Friday or Saturday night, invite the gang to your place.   Assign everyone something to bring: drinks, snacks, dessert, or whatever.  You take care of the main meal.  If you can’t cook, buy a frozen lasagna, or order in a pizza.

Next week, switch houses and switch what everyone is bringing to make it fair to everyone.  Just because we are in a recession doesn’t mean you can’t have fun; you just need to plan ahead and be smart about how you spend your money.
